THE ART OF LEADERSHIP
FOR SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS AND BUSINESS LEADERS
This seminar is being rescheduled to a possible date in the future. Please consider one of our other currently open seminars in 2008-2009
There is no shortage of good ideas in the world. Leadership is the ability to see things through. We want to change the world by supporting the visions of those who do.
Overview
The nonprofit Rockwood Leadership Institute, a nationally recognized provider of leadership development seminars for nonprofit leaders, is launching a new program for social entrepreneurs and socially responsible business leaders.
The first seminar will take place in California on September 8-11, 2008. Designed to provide a high-intensity learning community for senior executives of socially responsible businesses, it is also open to non-profit leaders with a social venture focus.
"Among Rockwood's 3,000 alumni and friends are a growing group of entrepreneurs who want to experience our unique approach to leadership development and expand their networks," says Rockwood's CEO Akaya Windwood. "Our mission is to encourage social change through transformative leadership development. We are looking forward to providing regular seminars for triple-bottom-line venture individuals and teams."
The Rockwood Leadership Institute workshop series has been experienced by more than 2,000 non-profit executives since launching in 1999. The growth of enterprises that mix for-profit and non-profit practices in pursuit of social goals has led the organization to refocus its programming to include this growing sector.
"Leading a business as a social enterprise poses a unique set of leadership challenges," says Danny Kennedy, CEO of Sungevity, a residential solar energy company based in Berkeley. "Rockwood is uniquely suited to improve the performance of any start-up or growing company."
The Program
The Rockwood Leadership Institute has selected and adapted the most relevant and effective methods for efficiently delivering the skills and insights necessary for leadership today. Using techniques drawn from organizational psychology and group dynamics, corporate training programs, the lives of historical figures and the contemplative disciplines, Rockwood programs are designed to deepen and widen socially responsible business leaders' understanding of themselves and their tasks, their roles in society and the contexts in which they work. They draw on the perennial wisdoms and examples of successful transformational leadership, and usually involve work on personal awareness, contemplative discipline, and other aspects of individual change and growth.
