Security and Rights Gathering 24 May 2013

It was truly my pleasure to stand with Rockwood alumni leaders standing tall in Austin, TX – at the close of a 4-day retreat to envision possibilities for US human rights advocacy and progressive national security reform. Together. We congratulate these leaders on their commitment to ongoing connection across the field, and living the Rockwood practices.

Here are a few words from fellows who traveled to Austin to join the gathering:

“Rockwood always comes at the right time for me. I am reminded why I choose to do social justice work and the amazing colleagues I have in the field. Rockwood reminds me to care of me so I can take care of others.”  Linda Sarsour, National Advocacy Director, National Network for Arab American Communities

“Rockwood continues to be a peerless resource for my personal and organizational leadership, as well as adding a quality and intentionality to our work across groups that nothing else does.”     Heather Hurlburt, Executive Director, National Security Network

“This gathering came at just the right time for me, when I was reassessing my role and purpose in the field. It helped me redefine my purpose, inspired me through discussions and interactions with other participants to expand my view of the possibilities for this work and my potential contribution to it. I’m incredibly grateful to Rockwood for providing this opportunity and experience.”   Daphne Eviatar, Senior Counsel, Human Rights First
